Harvest Festival

This year our Harvest gifts and those from Park school, were given to Forum Housing. This is a local trust offering hostel accommodation to young people aged 16-25 years, who for various reasons have had to leave home. Forum Housing were delighted with our gifts and send their grateful thanks.

Hazel Halfpenny

We are deeply saddened to announce the death of our beloved friend Hazel Halfpenny following a courageous fight against cancer. She passed away peacefully the morning of 4th September.

Hazel was a long serving member of the St Lukes and continued to attend the church after she and her husband Jack moved to Cuddington. Among her many contributions, she will be remembered for the enlightening and entertaining talks she gave to the Thursday fellowship.

Hazel was a lovely lady and will be sadly missed.

The family would like to thank everyone for their condolences, cards (over 150 have been received) and donations to cancer research. So far over £800 has been received.

Bible reading fellowship

Do you usually receive Bible Reading Fellowship notes? If you do then please contact Robert Woodburn.

It is very important for us as Christians that we engage with god’s word on a regular basis. The Bible Reading fellowship provide some excellent companion notes to help us to do just that. If you would like information about how to subscribe to this, please see Robert in church.

Poulton Residents’ Association and St Luke’s

Poulton Residents’ Association has been formed by the residents of the estate between Limekiln Lane and Poulton Road. The Association has asked St Luke’s if they can use the Church Room for meetings and some functions as they have no suitable premises locally which they could use. At the last meeting of the PCC it was agreed that this could be done as our parish includes all the residents of  Poulton.
On Wednesday 27th August a Pensioners Afternoon Tea was held at 2 pm. This inaugural meeting of our joint partnership was attended by the Mayor Adrian Jones and other councillors, representatives and community police officers. Joyce Clayton, Jeanette Currie and Lesley Roberts attended for St Luke’s. Although the numbers attending from the estate was disappointing, it was a happy occasion and a good beginning.
We look forward to closer links with members of this part of the parish who do not attend St Luke’s but are part of our ministry to the community, and hope that this meeting will be the first of many happy occasions for everyone.

School children in Romania

We at St Luke’s are making a collection of school items to help the children in Romania.
There is a box with a list of suggested items in the Baptistry at the back of the church.
The community warden has collected our latest box of school materials for Romania and expressed thanks for our continued support.

Helpers needed

We are looking for volunteers to help make tea and coffee after the 10.30 services. If you could help in any way please contact Joyce Clayton.

If you are interested in joining the Flower Guild and can help decorate our church on a regular basis please contact Betty Rhodes.

Can you read?

We have become a little short of people to read lessons and lead prayers in church over recent months, due to illness and other factors.
If you feel you would like to do this, please let Ian or Robert know

Gift aid donations

The Chancellor has announced in the recent budget that donations to charities will not be affected by the change in income tax rates. The present rate will still be able to be claimed until 2012. This is good news for us as we will now not lose income as we thought we might.
Thank you to all who contribute using the gift aid scheme.                                              JH and AJ
